Schneider Electrical Protection Pack for 7 kW Single-Phase EV Charger

The following protective devices are mandatory and must be installed on a dedicated circuit.

Protection devices required for single-phase connection:
Residual current device 40A – Type A or Hpi – 1P+N – 30mA
Circuit breaker 40A – Curve C

1/ Schneider 40A Single-Phase Residual Current Device (RCD)

The Schneider IlD RCCB – Type A – 1P+N – 40A – 30mA is essential for any EV charger installation.

It compares the incoming and outgoing current and instantly disconnects the circuit if the differential exceeds 30mA. This ensures personal protection against electric shock.

Compatibility
This RCD is compatible with all single-phase EV chargers operating with a charging current between 1A and 32A.

It must be installed in conjunction with a circuit breaker.

Installation
The device must be installed on a dedicated line specifically reserved for the EV charger, downstream of the main RCD in the electrical panel.

The EV charger must have its own dedicated circuit, protected by its own circuit breaker and residual current device.

2/ Schneider 40A Circuit Breaker

The Schneider thermal-magnetic circuit breaker – 1P+N – 40A – Curve C is essential for any EV charger installation. It protects the installation against overcurrent and short circuits.

Its Curve C is specifically suited to high inrush current devices such as EV charging stations. Its high breaking capacity and fast tripping mechanism guarantee safety, reliability, and long service life.

Compatibility
This circuit breaker is suitable for EV chargers configured between 6A and 32A.

It must be used in combination with a residual current device (fully compatible with the Schneider IlD RCCB).

Installation
The circuit breaker must be installed in the distribution board, on the dedicated RCD line for the EV charger. The charger must be wired on its own protected circuit with its own breaker and RCD.

This breaker is fully compatible with the Schneider IlD RCCB.

Installation specifications for single-phase or three-phase Wallbox

A Wallbox charging station must be installed on a dedicated line, with its own circuit breaker coupled with its own residual current device. Below are the specifications to ensure compliance:

Single-phase installation:
- Residual current device: Type B, 30mA, 2P or 1P+N, max. 63A (a Type A, F or Hpi is sufficient, instead of Type B, if the charging station is equipped with a DC leakage current detector)
- Circuit breaker: Minimum Curve C, minimum breaking capacity 3kA, 2P or 1P+N, 16 to 40A (choose 3 to 8A more than the rated current of the charging station)

Three-phase installation:
- Residual current device: Type B, 30mA, 4P, max. 63A (a Type A, F or Hpi is sufficient, instead of Type B, if the charging station is equipped with a DC leakage current detector)
- Circuit breaker: Minimum Curve C, minimum breaking capacity 3kA, 4P or 3P+N, 16 to 40A (choose 3 to 8A more than the rated current of the charging station)

Cable cross-sections for connections, according to French standards NF C15-100 and NF C15-722:
- Wallbox charging station 16A or 16A socket, cable length less than 100m: cable cross-section 2.5mm²
